Postdoctoral Position (Materials Chemistry) - Filled

Overview:

Dr. Mingyang Wei is seeking talented and self-motivated Postdoctoral Fellows to join our research group at NUS. Our research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of functional semiconductors, including organic molecules, metal complexes, and colloidal quantum dots, as well as the development of organic-inorganic heterostructures and luminescent nanomaterials with applications in solar cells, light emission, and photodetection.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop synthesis procedures for various chemical systems such as organic molecules, metal complexes, nanocrystals, and oxide semiconductors.

  • Prototype heterostructural materials and conduct physical chemistry characterizations to analyze the structural and chemical properties of materials.

  • Maintain high standards of safety and cleanliness in the workplace to ensure a safe and efficient research environment.

  • Mentor graduate students and research assistants; provide training on new processes developed in the lab.

  • Contribute to grant writing and actively seek external funding and fellowship opportunities.

 

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Strong background and expertise in at least one of the following chemistry fields: organic, inorganic, analytical, or physical.

  • Proficiency in using and maintaining key laboratory equipment, including gloveboxes, fume hoods, Schlenk lines, vacuum systems, annealing furnaces, and spectrometers.

  • Competence in material characterization and analysis methods such as NMR, XPS, FTIR, UV-Vis, PL, and XRD.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment.

 

Expected Start Date:
September 1, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Postdoctoral Position (Device Engineering) - Open

Overview:
Dr. Mingyang Wei is seeking talented and self-motivated Postdoctoral Fellows to join our research group at NUS. Our research focuses on thin-film processing, prototype device fabrication, and characterization of solution-processed solar cells, light-emitting diodes, and photodetectors. The successful candidates will have a strong background in materials science, electrical engineering, physics, or a related field, with experience in developing novel materials for optoelectronic applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop film fabrication procedures for the production of organic, metal complex, and perovskite optoelectronic devices.

  • Conduct optical and electrical characterization of device performance and reliability testing.

  • Collaborate with equipment vendors to establish a state-of-the-art thin-film processing and characterization lab.

  • Mentor graduate students and research assistants; provide training on newly developed lab processes.

  • Contribute to grant writing and actively seek external funding and fellowship opportunities.

 

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field.

  • Hands-on experience with one or more of the following techniques: thin film fabrication (such as spin coating, blade coating, or slot-die coating), thermal evaporation, ALD, or sputtering.

  • Competence in optoelectronic characterization and analysis methods, including PLQY, PL imaging, IPCE, KPFM, EL, and proficiency in Matlab or Python.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment.

Ph.D. Positions (3 Openings) 

We have three openings for talented students who are interested in working on solution-processed semiconductors, optical spectroscopy, and optoelectronic devices. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemistry, physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or chemical engineering. Students will be administrated by the National University of Singapore through the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. The prevailing requirements are a bachelor’s degree with honours (at least 2nd Class Lower) or its equivalent. Candidates applying for direct admission to the PhD programme are expected to obtain at least a bachelor’s degree with honours (at least 2nd Class Upper) or its equivalent. 


From AY2023/2024 onwards, all applicants applying to the PhD programme are required to submit their GRE scores. Minimum requirement: 320 (Verbal & Quantitative total), 3.5 (Analytical).
